Let Freedom Swing: A Tribute to the Life and Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Jazz Foundation of West Tennessee presents Let Freedom Swing: A Tribute to the Life and Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

This special evening will feature two exceptional musicians: Memphis native Joe Restivo and soulful singer Patrice Williamson. Restivo, a versatile artist who began his musical journey in punk bands before immersing himself in blues and jazz, honed his craft in New York City under the mentorship of jazz greats like Cannonball Adderley and Benny Powell. After returning to Memphis, he has continued to captivate audiences with his complex jazz style. Patrice Williamson, known for her evocative voice and impressive scat singing, has been compared to legends like Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan. A favorite on the Boston music scene, she has performed with renowned jazz artists such as Danilo Perez, Joe Lovano, and Terri Lynne Carrington. An Associate Professor of Voice at Berklee College of Music, she also spearheaded the Ella Project, celebrating Fitzgerald’s legacy. This concert promises to honor both Dr. King’s enduring legacy and the timeless tradition of jazz music.

Tickets are $33 (with fees).
